splunkterns-working-hardWelcome back to our “Meet the Splunktern” series. We hope you have enjoyed learning about the many opportunities for students at Splunk so far. The intern program at Splunk has many perks, including the events that the University Recruiting team organizes to help incorporate us [the Splunkterns] into Splunk, experience the culture and have an incredible summer. But from what I’ve heard, it seems that year after year the most eagerly awaited and favorite events of the Splunkterns is the lunch with our CEO, Godfrey Sullivan.

Earlier this summer, we had our lunch with Godfrey and let me tell you, it was AWESOME. I mean how often is it that as an intern you get to sit in the same room as a CEO, let alone your company’s CEO, AND ask them questions!? He told us about his journey to Splunk and shared some of the wisdom he has gathered along the way. For me, not only was it incredible to learn from Godfrey, but it showed me how much Splunk values their interns. Splunk doesn’t just “talk the talk” about their internships, but they “walk the walk.” That thought process clearly starts at the top and is seen across the whole company, regardless of role. Now enough of my sentimental. I have loved my internship – particularly getting to share the stories of our different Splunkterns. So, back to the real reason you’re reading this post – the highlighted Splunktern.

This week we are featuring Nathan Yeh, a Summer Analyst in the Corporate Development department. Nathan is studying Finance and Information Systems at the University of Maryland College Park. Nathan is originally from Maryland but has spent the summer in San Francisco at Splunk HQ (and not just learning about why the West Coast is the best coast).

We had the pleasure of speaking with Nathan about his summer so far and here is what he had to say:

What motivated you to apply for an internship at Splunk?
I was really intrigued by both the position and the industry Splunk operates in. Having been in Corporate Development last year at a mature diversified industrials company, I wanted to see how it was different at a rapidly growing tech company. I also wanted to learn how Splunk’s product worked and how it adds value to customers.

What kind of experience do you hope to gain from your internship?
I hope to gain significant industry knowledge of Splunk and to understand the M&A strategy that Splunk uses to achieve its goals. I am also aiming to gain a better understanding of how to evaluate and value potential acquisitions not just financially, but also strategically.

What is the coolest project you’re working on this summer?
The coolest project that I have been involved with this summer has been Splunk’s acquisition of Metafor Software. I enjoyed helping out in any way that I could, sitting in the meetings, and learning how acquisitions and integrations are done.

What is your impression of the Splunk culture?
To me, the Splunk culture is awesome! I would say it is a chill place where people want to work hard and play hard.

What’s your favorite snack in the kitchen?
Red Bulls. That is honestly one of the best perks ever.

Summer is coming to an end but be sure to check back in next week when we feature yet another amazing Splunktern and share their summer story with you!

Thanks!
Katrina
